KGSR’s Blues on the Green – Live Music in Austin by Irene M.

Austin’s live music scene has always been one of the city’s most popular attractions and labels it as the “Live Music Capital of the World.” Austin’s local Alternative station, 93.3 KGSR continues to promote this tradition by hosting a series of free summertime concerts at Zilker Park. At Blues on the Green, local and upcoming artists have the opportunity to play their music every other Wednesday beginning May 30th, all the way through August.

For Austinites, a blanket and chair is all they need to listen to some great music. I attended Blues on the Green for the first time two week ago and saw a great artist, Charlie Mars. Not knowing the band before going to the concert, I was pleasantly surprised by the talent and as soon as I got home I went on to iTunes and bought a few of their songs.

Now on their 22nd season, the music series this year features:
Charlie Mars with Max Gomez,
Rhett Miller with Wheeler Brothers,
Ben Kweller with Amy Cook,
BoDeans with Sahara Smith,
Marcia Ball with Nakia and
Quiet Company with the Eastern Sea and Wild Child (who will also be attended ACL Festival in October).

I encourage all to go check out the show, located on the east end of Zilker Park where Lou Neff Road wraps around. Rain or shine, the free community event is fun for everyone with children welcome and a relaxing summer music atmosphere.
