“Til Death Do Us Part” by Richard Osborn is the story of bachelor Aaron Kelley, a successful physician perfectly content with his bachelorhood lifestyle. Until, that is, he sees Maria at Jake’s, a local bar and hangout of Aaron’s. Time goes by and Aaron does not see Maria at the bar again, so he chalks it up to fate that they would never meet. When Aarons spots Maria at a fundraiser several months later, he introduces himself. The two fall madly in love, but Maria is married and their meetings with each other are few and far between. Something has to give, and Aaron resorts to drastic measures to insure he will be with Maria forever; but Aaron quickly discovers he is in over his head and is powerless over the outcome of events going forward.
I found this to be a fast-paced romantic mystery with several twists and turns that keep the plot moving throughout the entire story. The settings all over the world add to the mystery, intrigue, and drama. I did have a hard time connecting to the characters though; everything happened so quickly, I never really had a chance to connect deeper than at a surface level interest. A little more depth in the main characters would complete the package for my personal tastes.
That said, “Til Death Do Us Part” is a great debut novel from Richard Osborn, sure to draw fans of lusty, romantic mystery/thrillers. The ending is fantastic and I never saw it coming. Is this the end of Aaron and Maria, or does the author have more up his sleeve? I look forward to seeing more work from Richard Osborn in the future.
