“Jay: Short Stories, Insights, and Lessons from a Life of Hope and Abundance” by Jay Reed is a compilation of short stories that will entice the reader’s senses. The author does a fabulous job of descriptive writing that will take the reader to a faraway land. While the stories don’t all relate, there is a theme of nature that ties them all together.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading the short stories in this book. Not only does Mr. Reed describe in detail his surroundings while on various nature adventures, he details his personal experiences as he struggles and conquers physically through rapid waters while in his kayak. As the reader, I was able to experience vicariously his struggle and ultimate victory of the waters. I have never been kayaking, and I now feel a connection to the experience.

The author also connects with animals as he grows up on a farm, and helps to take care of various animals. The joy, love, and heartbreak is evident in his stories as he shares his raw feelings through the eyes of a child.

I would recommend “Jay: Short Stories, Insights, and Lessons from a Life of Hope and Abundance” by Jay Reed to anyone who likes a story that enlightens the heart and awakens the senses. It’s an easy and quick read, that packs quite a punch in a compilation of short stories. For those of us who cannot escape to a cabin in the woods, or a fire by the river, this book offers the feelings those experiences provide. I will keep this book by my bed to reread often.
